Letter From The Editor
September-October 2008

It’s September and while students are planning the beginning of another school year, equestrians are finalizing plans for year end awards and championship shows.
The 2008 ECRDA Championship Show is less than five weeks away.  We are very excited that this year’s show is being hosted by Dr. Gail Pratt and Saddlebrook Ridge Equestrian Center.  Our judge for the day will be Pam Wooding.
This year at the Championship Show  ALL CLASSES ARE TRIPLE SANCTIONED FOR YEAR END AWARDS (ECRDA, ESDCTA and ECSJ).
Because of the lead time needed for our special ribbons and plaques, this show closes early - September 10th.  So please get your entries in right away.  See page 11.
Your Executive Board has started planning for our Year End Awards banquet to be held again at Cater 2 U in Mount Laurel.  Jan and her marketing committee have already started on the auction baskets.  Please read about this exciting activity on page 7, and help out in any way you can.

Happy riding. See you all real soon.

Pam

Benefit Schooling Show a Great Success

Our thanks to everyone who participated in the August 24 show to benefit the various ECRDA award programs.  This was our largest show ever! We all had a great time while raising funds to help honor our hard-working membership.
Our appreciation is extended to Joy and Jeff  Kloss and Fox Hunt Farm for their warm hospitality. Special thanks to Edwin and his crew for their help throughout the day.  The facilities were excellent, and ECRDA plans to return here for future events.  In addition, ECRDA hopes to see Fox Hunt offer some dressage shows of their own.

To our judge, Mary Harrison, thanks for being part of our successful day.

We had a great support team of volunteers helping out behind the scenes. Special thanks to Show Secretary Pam Turner, scribes Leslie Savage and Nicole Rettino, and volunteers Sara Bagala, Iris Furlong, Ashley Rickabaugh, George Rickabaugh, and Jan Kalafat.  Also, thanks to Shelley Holbrook and Sharon Lutgen for preparing the show grounds.

The ECRDA Board is looking forward to running more benefit schooling shows next year.  Join us then to support a great cause.

ECRDA 2008 Year End Awards

By Pam Turner

ECRDA gives out Year End High Score Awards in all levels from Lead Line to FEI and musical freestyles.  Each level is divided JR/SR and for those who have shown above Second Level.

Riders are ranked by the median of their 3 highest scores from 3 different shows and 3 different judges (2 for FEI levels), regardless of how many shows they entered.

Riders who are ineligible for a high score award but attain at least one score above 60% will be awarded a 60% rosette.

As our active riding membership continues to grow, the job of verifying scores for year end awards and medals also continues to grow.

Year End Rankings (medians) and 60% ribbon qualifiers will be posted in the November newsletter and on the web site around November 5.  Riders will have two weeks to verify their scores and contact the Year End Awards Chairperson for any needed corrections.  After two weeks, all scores and medians are final.

I will be glad to verify individual members’ scores, medians, and medal status at any time throughout the season, and especially in October.  My contact information is on page 1.  You may also see me at the secretary’s booth at the Championships.

The ECRDA Dressage Medal Application is found in the rule book on the ECRDA web site, www.ecrda.com.  Click on “rule book”, then No. 7 “Dressage Medal Application.”

I’m happy to see that several of you will qualify this year. To confirm your qualifications, please send me the ECRDA Dressage Medal application. You do not need to send copies of your tests.  Mail by November 5 to Pam Turner, 5 Stanley Place, Jackson, NJ  08527.
